Created in 2017 for the exhibition The Kiss, Mad About You takes a playful view of romance in the age of social media. Pierre Guillaume chooses cherry, liquorice and powdery flowers rather than an innocent bouquet, allowing familiar sweetness to acquire a darker, more sophisticated character.

The opening is distinctly gourmand, with sour cherry and liquorice alongside soft floral powder. As the fragrance develops, a duet of Bois de Violette and black tea absolute becomes more important. Their leathery, powdery effect gives the woody-floral composition another dimension beyond its initial confectionery appeal.

That change of mood is what makes Mad About You interesting. The cherry remains recognisable, but it is not the whole story: tea and the violet-wood accord introduce a more composed, darker presence. Sweetness and powder are still part of its charm, now set within a fragrance that treats romance with a little irony rather than unbroken innocence.
