Streams and waterfalls running through the Bois Noirs mountains in Auvergne give Monsieur its forest atmosphere. The scent of bark, moss, earth and stone becomes a full-bodied woody composition, with a mineral freshness suggesting water emerging from rock.

Eight principal notes establish the woodland character: patchouli, cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, poplar absolute, oakmoss, incense wood and papyrus. Crushed-leaf impressions and mineral freshness accompany them. The woods are not a soft background to another theme; their variety and presence define the fragrance.

Monsieur is darker and more earthy than a polished cedar portrait or a creamy sandalwood scent. Dry bark and moss remain distinct, while the fresh nuances keep the forest from feeling airless. The appeal is a complete woodland impression rather than a single timber: powerful woods with undergrowth and water, bringing a rugged, naturalistic character to an otherwise carefully composed fragrance.
